Rather than swimming in Lake Malawi, kids in the area prefer to bath and play in the stagnant waters just some meters away from the lake. They are the same waters where women wash clothes and where goats around drink.
In the many stagnant waters around it's plenty of coliform bacteries, which come from both animal and human organic wastes and which in high concentrations cause diarrhoea.
